Expensive European Missiles

The Conservative government has said it supports a missile defence system in Europe. This is a great idea, if you are playing Civilization IV on easy mode (settler). No AI has the guts to build missiles on their own and you can blow your enemies into oblivion. But, as much as the Harper government wants to pretend, leading a government is very unlike playing Civ IV on settler. Building more arms will just cause other nations to stock up on weapons. It's a continuing circle. What we should be concentrating on right now is disarmament of missiles. With more countries getting missiles, there is more chance for death, even by accidents. There should be no nuclear weapons in the world and minimal ballistic missiles.

OTTAWA — The Conservative government says it supports a European ballistic missile defence system proposed for approval by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the other NATO leaders at a summit in Portugal next month.

U.S expands sanctions on North Korea

U.S. as it promised said it would create tougher sanctions on North Korea. North Korea has still continued to try for nuclear weapons while everyone continues to try and stop them. Sanctions are the best way to stop North Korea from getting a nuclear weapon. The U.S and many other countries should continue to toughen it's sanctions until North Korea stops. All countries should continue to try to stop North Korea and any other nations from getting nuclear weapons, but they should practice what they preach and get ride of their own nuclear weapons.

The sanctions will hit eight North Korean "entities" and four individuals, targeting the trade in arms, luxury goods and narcotics.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced last month that US sanctions against North Korea would be expanded.

North Korea indicated last year that any attempt to blockade the country would be regarded as an "act of war".

They talk.

North Korea is going to have a metting abouth the sinking ship. This will be the second talk North Korea will have since the sinking of the ship. Since the attak as my last post has been the sanctions have been put in place against North Korea. The U.S has shown there strong alliance with South Korea by having 8,000 millitary personels have joint millitary exercises with the South Korean millitary. I think North Korea finaly knew it was over if they did any more. I am glad they finaly had talks. If there is a little more luck then maybe they could get North Korea to talk aboiyt there nuclear weapons.

About 8,000 military personnel from the United States and South Korea are to participate in joint military exercises dubbed "Invincible Spirit" from July 25-28, Combined Alliance Joint Naval and Air Exercises announced Tuesday.

 It will be the second meeting between the two parties since the March attack on the Cheonan, which killed 46 South Korean sailors.

An international investigation blamed North Korea for the sinking, an assertion the North has denied.

yes sanctions !

Hilliary Clinton has annouced that the U.S will be imposing sancitions on North Korea. This is because of the South Korean torpedo that North Korea has sunk which killed 46 people. New sanctions like freezing assets to stop any buying of arms from North Korea. I think that this is great. Just like Iran the international community is now taking action on the threats of the world. The U.S will now be standing beside south Korea in any case of war or conflict. I am glad that the U.S is supporting South korea in it's now very tense relationship with North Korea. The U.S has had a meeting with South Korean now talking about any further Actions. I hope this does not lead to war , and that with more pressure from other countries that North Korea will give up on war and nuclear weapons.

Nuke the spill?

Some people are saying that the solution to the leaking well in the Gulf of Mexico is to set off a nuclear blast to blow it up. In fact, former Soviet physicist Viktor Mikhailov is saying, "I don't know what BP is waiting for, they are wasting their time. Only about 10 kilotons of nuclear explosion capacity and the problem is solved." Of course, this might cause enormous damage to the environment and maybe even people living on the shores of the Gulf. I'm no expert, but the benefits and disadvantages of a nuclear explosion in the area must be weighed against waiting for the relief well. But, we should not have to be considering these extreme measures. If we just just invested in alternative energy instead of giving presents to the oil companies, our country and world would be a better place. Fossil fuel subsidies are ancient and need to be killed.

Go! Canada Go!

Old news: Iran has been accused of getting nuclear weapons. The UN has imposed multiple sanctions on Iran, and now Canada has imposed sanctions to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons. I have said that Iran should be pressured by the international community to not build weapons of mass destruction. Now it is happening. So I am congratulating the UN, Canada, U.S , and all other countries for doing this. We must make sure that no new countries get nuclear weapons, and that countries that have threaten our allies do not get weapons.  

On June 9, the UN passed a resolution imposing a fourth round of sanctions against Iran that was approved by a final tally of 12 "yes" votes, two "no" votes, from Brazil and Turkey, and one abstention, from Lebanon.

Canada demands that Iran fully co-operate with the International Atomic Energy Agency by suspending its enrichment activities, as well as engage in a constructive dialogue with China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States with a view to reaching a diplomatic solution as soon as possible, Cannon said.

Copenhagen welcome back

Remember Copenhagen where the world came together, and got particularly nothing done other than an agreement to reduce emissions (optional)? Well they have done it again. The world came together and agreed they need to reduce there nuclear weapons, and go off and make an agreement that has no teeth (no legal obligation). Now I do at least think that the nuclear summit is a good thing to have talks with countries, but if you are going to make an a world agreement to reduce nuclear weapons and everyone is on the same page then why not have a some sort of legal obligation. I do think that the country's that did not attend the meeting should have much pressure from the international community to not obtain nuclear weapons.
